"Because the smallest organizations often have the biggest hearts—and they deserve to be helped."
You save lives. We'll help secure funding for you.
Small nonprofits do extraordinary work—rescuing animals, protecting survivors, defending women and children—often with tiny budgets, volunteer staff, and zero marketing support.
Meanwhile, billions in capacity-building grant funding goes underutilized every year because small organizations don't have the time, staff, or knowledge to apply.
That's where The Underdog Movement comes in.
Imagine this:
A volunteer-run animal rescue saves 100+ animals every month. They work around the clock, spend their own money on supplies, and pour their hearts into every adoption.
But their Facebook page has 200 followers. Their website was built in 2010. They have no donor database. No volunteer recruitment materials. No adoption campaign strategy.
Not because they don't care.
Because they don't have capacity.
They're too busy SAVING LIVES to market themselves. Too stretched to write grant applications. Too small to afford professional help.
And they're not alone.
Across West Michigan—and across America—thousands of small nonprofits face the same challenge:
They do the work. But the world doesn't see them.
There are billions of dollars in capacity-building grants specifically designed to fund marketing and communications support for small nonprofits.
But 41% of small nonprofits aren't ready to apply. They don't have grant writers. They don't have 200 hours to spend on applications. They don't even know these grants exist.
So here's what we do:
We partner with small nonprofits to help them:
You do the life-saving work. I help the world see it.
You reach out (or we reach out to you!) and we have a 15-minute conversation about your organization, your mission, and your needs.
We identify 2-4 capacity-building grants you're eligible for—foundation grants, community grants, state programs—that specifically fund marketing and communications.
We help you strengthen your application at no cost to you. We write the marketing section together. You submit the application.
If funded (30-40% success rate!), you receive grant money for marketing services. We provide those services at the grant-funded rate. You get professional marketing. We get paid. The animals/survivors/children WIN.
If not funded? We still provide pro bono consultation and we try again next cycle.
Zero risk. Zero upfront cost. Just partnership.

Proven Results That Change Lives
When small nonprofits get professional marketing support, extraordinary things happen.
Here's what happened when I partnered with a West Michigan disability services organization:
Proven Track Record of Transforming Nonprofit Visibility & Impact
Over 18 months working with a West Michigan disability services nonprofit, I delivered measurable results that dramatically increased their community reach and funding capacity:
Digital Presence:
Community Engagement:
Marketing Materials:
The result? Increased donations, volunteer recruitment, and community awareness that enabled the organization to expand services and reach more people in need.
This is what's possible when small nonprofits get the marketing support they deserve.
More visibility = More donors = More volunteers = MORE LIVES CHANGED
This organization went from being a "best-kept secret" to a recognized community leader—all because they finally had the marketing capacity they deserved.
Now imagine what's possible for YOUR organization.
I believe in you! I've been fighting for the underdog since I was a little girl.
On the school bus, I enthusiastically made room when others said there wasn't space.
In the hallways, I invited the lonely kid to join us—even when they didn't fit in, didn't smell good, and didn't look "right." I knew her since kindergarten and just because she wasn't a "cheerleader", didn't mean she couldn't walk with us.
Because everyone matters. Especially the forgotten ones.
As an adult, I've hosted annual yard parties where friends donated hundreds of dollars to single moms, filled entire rooms with supplies for animal shelters, and watched my daughter with disabilities give the pitch of her life to volunteer at a rescue. I am not telling you this to brag....I want you to know that this is in my blood.
I've learned that when you shine a light on the underdog, people WANT to help.
Now, with 28+ years of marketing experience and 800+ testimonials, I realize I've been training my entire life for THIS:
To use everything I've learned about marketing, about storytelling, about making people VISIBLE...
...to champion the small nonprofits that save lives but can't afford to tell anyone about it.
This is my full-circle moment. This is my contribution.
And now it's a MOVEMENT—because together, we can change everything.

You don't pay us directly. We apply for capacity-building grants that fund our services. If successful, the grant pays us. If not, you still get free consultation and we try again.
That's exactly why we're here! We help you navigate the process, strengthen your application, and apply to grants you'd never find on your own.
From first conversation to grant application: 2-4 weeks. From application to decision: 1-3 months depending on the grant.
Industry average for capacity grants is 30-40%. Our goal is to exceed that by targeting the RIGHT grants for each organization.
The Underdog Movement specifically serves small-to-medium nonprofits (under $1M budget) that lack marketing capacity. Larger organizations typically have in-house teams.
